Chicago Bears: 10 Matt Nagy replacements to start watching closely
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy could be replaced by Kevin O’Connell
Lastly, we come to another underrated name who could be of interest. Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell is a former quarterback, drafted in the third round just back in 2008. His playing career didn’t last long, but he’s picked up coaching and has quietly made a name for himself.
O’Connell spent a few seasons in Washington where he worked with both Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins, but now has spent two years with the Rams under Sean McVay. O’Connell previously worked with. McVay in Washington, so you know he will come with a lot of the same tendencies and creativity.
This year, O’Connell got the gift of the Rams trading for Matthew Stafford. Since acquiring Stafford, this Rams offense has been nearly unstoppable. O’Connell hasn’t had to do much developing, as Stafford has come in and impressed him quite a bit. So, it would be interesting to see if O’Connell could develop Fields or simply provide a solid scheme.
If Chicago went with him, hopefully O’Connell could provide a little bit of both. He might take another year or so until he gets a lot of buzz, but O’Connell is a noteworthy name to watch the second half of this season.
