Chicago Cubs: Jorge Soler wins the World Series MVP
The Atlanta Braves have won the World Series for the first time since 1995. They defeated the Houston Astros in six games to end a very good playoff tournament. It was an outstanding performance from the team that had the worst record of any team that made it to the postseason. They proved that sometimes it isn’t the best team that is the last standing, it is the hottest team.
One of the biggest reasons that they won it all was the play of former Chicago Cubs outfielder, Jorge Soler. He was so good all playoffs but he was especially good in the World Series. It led to him winning the World Series MVP in what is now his second World Series Championship. He last won it with the Cubs in 2016.
In the series as a whole, Soler hit .300 with three home runs, six RBIs, and three walks. It was as good of a performance as you can get from someone in a six-game series. He was everything they needed and more after being acquired at the trade deadline.
The Braves sent Kasey Kalich to the Kansas City Royals at the trade deadline in exchange for Soler. Of course, the Cubs sent him there so that they can get Wade Davis to be their closer. Davis only played a single season for the Cubs.
Jorge Soler was magnificent for the Atlanta Braves in the 2021 World Series.
Soler was magnificent in this series and deserves all the praise that he has received. Hopefully, he is able to have continued success in the MLB as his career goes along. He can clearly make an impact in big moments. The Braves rebuilt their entire outfield during the regular season after Ronald Acuna Jr. went down and Soler was a big part of that.
He wasn’t the only former Cubs player to win the World Series with Atlanta. Joc Pederson spent the first half of this 2021 season with the Cubs and Jesse Chaves spent the second half of 2018 with them as they tried to make another run. All three of these guys were good for them at different times and deserve to be World Series champions.
There were also a couple of other Cubs that made an impact in the playoffs. Craig Kimbrel, Ryan Tepera, Anthony Rizzo, Kyle Schwarber, and Kris Bryant were all involved in the postseason for different amounts of time and it was fun to watch them all compete in the tournament.
They aren’t Cubs anymore but they all brought different levels of success to the organization at different times. Seeing Soler win the World Series MVP should be very cool for Cubs fans as he was originally their guy. As mentioned before, the Atlanta Braves deserve a lot of credit for their victory and should be proud. The 2022 season can’t come soon enough.
