Chicago Blackhawks: John Tortorella would be a horrible idea

John Tortorella has been a very successful coach in the National Hockey League. He has made the postseason more often than not, won a Stanley Cup in 2004 with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and is a two-time Jack Adams Award winner as the coach of the year. All of this is very impressive but he would be a terrible option for the 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks.

Tortorella is going to coach again in the NHL. He is currently working as an analyst on ESPN but he has said live on air that he wants to coach again. He also confirmed on there that the Florida Panthers never called him when they went to replace former Blackhawks’ coach Joel Quenneville.

That means that he is available and willing for anyone who calls. He ripped the Chicago Blackhawks for the sexual abuse scandal live on air which was good to hear because they deserve the criticism in waves.

As you can see, Torts is very smart and compassionate when it comes to that situation. However, the reason he would be unfit to coach this current team is specifically hockey-related and nothing else. The Blackhawks are a very bad hockey team and their 0-6-2 record proves it. It is fair to wonder if a team this bad is good for a coach like Torts.

John Tortorella doesn’t seem like a good fit for the Chicago Blackhawks right now.

If John Tortorella is going to coach this year, he would have to replace a coach that was fired but that doesn’t mean he should go to a team this bad. The Hawks have no direction and the issues off the ice make the future even bleaker because we don’t know the long-term solution to the front office yet. All of that is very small compared to the situation but it will need to be figured out at some point.

Another big thing is Seth Jones. It is clear that Jones wanted out of his situation with the Columbus Blue Jackets which is also where Tortorella last coached. The two had some success together but you can’t help but wonder if putting them back together would lead to more success in new colors.

Jones signed a contract that is already looking tough so they should try and make him feel more comfortable. If bringing this guy in to coach does the opposite, that would make it an even worse idea. That may or may not be the case but it is easy to wonder based on how things ended for them both in Columbus.

We don’t even know for sure if Jeremy Colliton is going to be fired. However, the one who claimed that he wasn’t going anywhere was Stan Bowan who isn’t there anymore for obvious reasons. Now, if they continue to go on without getting a win, a change may be imminent. Torts might be an option but it just seems like a bad idea at this time. With that said, anything may be better than what they have going right now.
