Chicago Blackhawks: Detroit Red Wings add to the embarrassment
The Chicago Blackhawks are in big trouble now. They are 0-5-1` and one of the worst teams in the Western Conference. The Detroit Red Wings came to town as a much-improved bunch from previous years and made things so difficult on the Blackhawks.
Marc Andre Fleury was under pressure all night and that forced him to take the loss and six goals against as the Red Wings won 6-3. There wasn’t much Fleury can do in this game as nobody did their job in front of him. The system that the Hawks run clearly doesn’t work because opponents are just allowed to do what they want in front of the net.
They went into Sunday not having held a lead at any point in the season. During this game against the Red Wings, they broke the NHL record for the longest time to start the season without having a lead. They now will head into the next game with this on their minds as well because they never managed to lead after breaking the record.
Lucas Raymond is one of the bright young stars that Detroit drafted with a top-five pick in the last few years. He came into Chicago and had a hat trick and one assist to lead the Wings to victory. He is going to be a very good player for a long time.
The Detroit Red Wings came and dominated the Chicago Blackhawks on the road.
The Wings should be very proud of the way they handled the rebuild and it is something the Blackhawks should really start thinking about if this losing continues. They canceled their rebuild early by adding players like Marc-Andre Fleury, Seth Jones, and Tyler Johnson but that is not how you have success in the NHL.
It was already a very embarrassing start to the season. Detroit came in and made it even worse. The Hawks didn’t really stand much of a chance in this one which is a major problem. Although Detroit has taken a massive step this year, they aren’t as good as the Hawks made them look on Sunday.
The Wings may go on to take that step towards the playoffs but the Hawks have playoff hopes themselves. One team looks poised to do so and it isn’t the Hawks. There is a lot of chatter around the coach and the GM but that is a story for another day.
As of now, we just need to see the Hawks stop the bleeding in the present time. The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming to town with stars like Auston Matthews, John Tavares, William Nylander, and Mitch Marner looking to get their own team going offensively. The Hawks are going to have a hard time breaking out of this against that group.
