The Chicago Bulls had a really close win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night. It was an awesome way to start the 2021-22 season off. Some people were concerned about them because the Pistons aren’t very good and the Bulls struggled to lead at times.

However, this is the first time the Bulls won an opener in a very long time and their 1-0 record has them over .500 for the first time since March of 2017. They aren’t going to dominate their way to a one seed this season but they are going to be much improved. Getting a win in the first game of the season is certainly a start considering where they have been.

Zach LaVine has been with the Bulls for a long time now. He has blossomed into an All-Star caliber player which has really helped them move forward as an organization. On Wednesday, he scored 34 points and had seven rebounds and four assists. Those 34 points are the most he has ever had in a season-opener.

LaVine was magnificent but the reason that the Bulls have more hype this year is because of their new additions. They saw a lot of new faces come to the team over the summer and they all made an impact in a different way on Wednesday.

DeMar DeRozan scored 17 points and added seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Lonzo Ball had 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one block. Anthony Caruso had four steals, three points, three assists, three rebounds, and two blocks. These are the big veteran additions that the Bulls made during the offseason that are really going to help them.

The Chicago Bulls made a lot of different additions to the squad over the summer.

Veteran additions weren’t the only difference-makers in the first game. Ayo Dosunmu had seven points, two rebounds, and one block in his NBA debut after being drafted by the Bulls out of the University of Illinois. It was a really nice draft pick for the Bulls in a year that they didn’t have a first-round pick.

All of these guys are going to be counted on to help out in different ways throughout the season. Nikola Vucevic and Patrick Williams are also there as well so the Bulls believe they have a full complement of players at their disposal.

As it showed against the Pistons, things aren’t going to be perfect this year. There is work to be done and the right leadership is there to make sure that it happens. The new additions helped them win their first game and they are going to help them take a step as an organization. Their next game is tomorrow night against the New Orleans Pelicans. It will be their home opener so expect some big fun.
