Chicago Blackhawks: Embarrassing night for home opener

The Chicago Blackhawks finally got to play at home for the first time this season. It was amazing to see the United Center packed for the first time since March 11th, 2020 against the San Jose Sharks. They let some fans in for two games to end last season but it was just more than 3,000 people which is not a lot at all when the building carries around 20,000 people.

The Hawks also needed some home cooking very badly as they came back from their road trip 0-2-1. They needed a win in the early going as bad as any team in the league and they played like it at first. They defended well and created chances in the early stages of the game but were unable to score on the New York Islanders.

Eventually, New York broke through and that was it for Chicago. The Islanders cruised to a 4-1 win as the Hawks played terribly in the third period. It is a long season but you have to wonder how long this will go for before the front office decides to make a change. The whole city is turning on Jeremy Colliton as he probably should be gone.

He is an okay coach and has a chance to be a really good one in his career but not with this team at this time. You can sense that guys like Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane have had enough of this but you can never truly know for sure. We can only hope that this turns around soon but this is embarrassing.

The Chicago Blackhawks had an embarrassing loss to the New York Islanders.

A team this good on paper should have a win within their first four games. The Buffalo Sabres, who have the worst roster in the NHL, is 3-0-0. They play hard right now and make smart decisions which are not something that the Hawks are doing. The system that Colliton is running just isn’t working.

This is a team loaded with stars. Marc-Andre Fleury and Seth Jones are superstars that were brought in to help but haven’t been able to get it going for a variety of reasons. They have each shown flashes because they are talented but the team isn’t doing them any favors. This is going to get really old really quickly if it doesn’t turn around.

The Hawks are back in action on Thursday when the Vancouver Canucks come to town. That is another team with lots of skill that likes to play fast so the Hawks will have their work cut out for them. The start to this season has been a disaster but there is plenty of time to turn it around here.
