Chicago Bears Stats: Unique numbers prove Bears among the elite

2. The Chicago Bears are running the ball at a monumental rate
Over the past couple of games, we have witnessed a change in the Bears’ game plan. Since Bill Lazor took over play-calling, Chicago’s offense has become much more run-focused. For a rookie quarterback, this is big.
The Chicago Bears have run the ball on 51.56% of plays through five weeks (3rd-highest in NFL)
Even last week against Las Vegas, without David Montgomery, the Bears stuck to the run game. Chicago ran it 37 times as opposed to just 21 pass attempts for Fields. Damien Williams, Khalil Herbert and Fields combined to rush for 143 yards on that day.
Similarly, the Week 4 victory over Detroit saw the Bears run for the most yards in a game since Week 14 of the 2018 season. Chicago ran for 188 yards on 39 attempts against the Lions, while Fields only threw the ball 17 times.
This is going to be their recipe for success going forward, as Fields continues to develop. No matter who is running the football, the Bears will continue pounding the rock. With the way their defense has played, too, they should be afforded the luxury to never have to abandon the run.
