Patrick Wisdom was incredible for the Chicago Cubs during the entire 2021 season.

Frank Schwindel isn’t the only Chicago Cubs “old rookie” this season. Patrick Wisdom was also sensational during what was his age-29 season. He was afforded the opportunity to play way more games than Schwindel as he appeared in 106 Chicago Cubs games. In those contests, he proved that he is a worthy Major League player.

Schwindel’s numbers were slightly better but it was in about half as many games. As a result, Wisdom might be a legit candidate for a top-3 finish in the National League Rookie of the Year race.

With a slash line of .231/.305/.518 for an OPS of .823, he was amongst the best rookies in the league. He had 28 home runs, 61 RBIs, and 54 runs scored. Those 28 home runs are a Cubs rookie record which was a mark previously held by Kris Bryant.

Going into 2021, Wisdom has to be in the conversation to be back. Of course, like Schwindel, they might consider trading him while his value is as high as it ever will be but if they are rebuilding, they need some great veterans to play every day and help out the younger players. Wisdom can be one of those guys.

It was a tough year for the Cubs but as mentioned before, there was some good to come out of it. All three of these players, amongst others, played well and should be back next season. Obviously, each one is different but they can all help the team win which is all that matters.
