Chicago Bears: Justin Fields is bad because of Matt Nagy
The Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns are two completely different football teams. The Browns are much better than the Bears but it should not have been that much of a dominating performance. It was as bad as the Chicago Bears have played in the Matt Nagy era. He has made Justin Fields and everyone around him look so bad for a while now but this game is the worst of it all.
Sunday was the first start in the NFL career of Justin Fields. Andy Dalton wasn’t healthy enough to go so Fields was the guy. He had some snaps under his belt from the first two weeks but this was his first time beginning the game under center. It didn’t go well. Nobody, however, is blaming Fields for his bad performance.
Matt Nagy should be ashamed of himself. He was as bad of an offensive play-caller as we have seen in the NFL. The Bears ended the game with 47 total yards. One of those 47 yards came via the pass. Yes, only one. They had 46 yards on the ground which is also very bad.
The Cleveland Browns sacked the quarterback seven times. There were a total of 9.0 sacks handed out on the stat sheet so you know it was terrible. The play calling and the offensive line was so bad that Justin Fields had no chance. Myles Garrett had a career-high of 4.5 sacks all by himself as he tormented the entire Bears’ offense.
The Chicago Bears offense is absolutely terrible under Matt Nagy’s coaching.
It might not be fun but it is okay to say that Justin Fields was so bad in this game. He was bad, however, because of his head coach. Nagy is not the offensive guru that he was touted to be in Kansas City. He can’t blame Mitch Trubisky anymore either. Maybe, just maybe, it was more Nagy than Trubisky and it’s no close.
This team is going absolutely nowhere. They were fine against the Cincinnati Bengals last week but that is because the Bengals are an equally as lousy football team. Against a Super Bowl contender like the Cleveland Browns, the Bears just looked pathetic.
The Browns had 418 yards of total offense to those bad 47 yards that the Bears had. It makes the defense look bad to say it like that but they actually played well. They had four sacks of their own and made things tough on Baker Mayfield on times. Unfortunately, Mayfield and his crew were able to put up 26 points which are more than enough.
It was a wasted effort by the defense who may have given up even less if the offense didn’t keep them on the field so often. Matt Nagy is to blame for most of it. He has no idea how to run an offense in the National Football League. If the Bears had any integrity as an organization, they would make a change right now.
