Things just continue to look uglier and uglier for the Chicago Cubs. They have a lot of fight in them but they are a horrible baseball team. That was on full display during their game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. Desperate for a win, the Phillies were gift-wrapped one at home after making a huge comeback to defeat the Cubs.

The biggest key to it all was Bryce Harper. After the Cubs went up 7-0 in the third inning, it looked like the Cubs were going to win a huge game over the Phillies. Instead, they let Philly come all the way back to tie the game at seven in the fourth inning. The Phillies would also tack on ten more runs to the Cubs 1 so the final score ended up being 17-8 in favor of the home team.

Bryce Harper, a potential National League MVP in 2021, led the comeback. He went three for four with a home run, four RBIs, two walks, and three runs scored. It was a great game for him as he tries to keep his Phillies in the game as well as compete for the MVP award. His closest competition for that is Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres.

This was a much-needed win for the Phillies. They currently trail the Atlanta Braves in the National League East Division by 3.0 games. They only trail the St. Louis Cardinals for the second Wild Card spot by 2.5 games. They have a chance at both of those if they continue to win down the stretch. Bryce Harper playing like this is a big key to that happening.

The Chicago Cubs allowed Harper and the Phillies to make a huge comeback.

As for the Cubs, this was one of the many times this season that they have blown a big lead like this. After going up 7-0, you would think that they hang on to win someway somehow. Unfortunately, it is bee one of those kinds of seasons. When the Phillies came all the way back to tie, you had a feeling right away that things weren’t going to end well.

The Cubs are now done with the Phillies but they aren’t coming home. They have the Milwaukee Brewers coming up next and that is going to be even tougher. That Milwaukee pitching staff is very tough to face so don’t be surprised if the offense is limited in this series. After the way that this Phillies game went, things aren’t looking too good. Maybe Patrick Wisdom will break Kris Bryant’s rookie single-season home run record. Cubs fans need one story to root for at least.
