Chicago Bears: Embarrassing showing on Sunday Night Football
Even though we knew it was coming, there is always a glimmer of hope when it comes to being a Chicago Bears fan. They have good players like Allen Robinson, Khalil Mack, David Montgomery, and Darnell Mooney amongst others. However, it is clear that they aren’t a deep enough team and there are so many issues. Because of that, they were embarrassed on national television to open the season. The final score of 34-14 tells you everything you need to know.
We all know about how our time is being wasted by watching Andy Dalton as the starter. He didn’t have an atrocious game but he certainly isn’t good enough to be a starting quarterback on a good team anymore. He has had a great career but that is the past. In this game, he went 28/38 for 207 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.
Justin Fields was given a few snaps to make his NFL debut. He went 2 for 2 on pass attempts for 10 yards and had one rushing touchdown. It was clear that he was being eased in because most of the snaps he took led to rushing plays of some kind. Unfortunately, the game wasn’t close towards the end so there was no point in giving him more if he wasn’t the starter.
Outside of the quarterbacks, there was one offensive player that did their job well and that is David Montgomery. He rushed the ball 16 times and had 107 yards and a touchdown. He also had one reception for 10 yards. He has the potential to be a top-ten running back in the NFL if the Bears used him right. He only had 16 carries which is still too low, especially since he had 107 yards on that little amount of work.
The defense was not very good. They are supposed to be the strength of the team and they were anything but. They allowed Matthew Stafford to drive down the field at will. He had multiple big plays through the air right over the middle of the field. If they don’t tighten that up, they are going to lose by multiple touchdowns every week because the offense isn’t going to get much better with Dalton.
The Chicago Bears need everyone to be better than they were in Los Angeles.
The Chicago Bears are going to have a very tough season. It doesn’t appear that Matt Nagy has learned his lesson in anything. He didn’t call enough run plays, he went for it when they should have kicked a field goal, and the play-calling was just overall bad in general. It is also clear that the roster that Ryan Pace has put together just isn’t good enough. It is so nice to have Justin Fields but we learned on national television that they are an embarrassing organization once again.
