Chicago Cubs: Kris Bryant’s return was sensational for everyone
Kris Bryant made his return to Wrigley Field on Friday afternoon when his San Francisco Giants played against the Chicago Cubs. It was a very emotional, sad, and happy day on the north side of town for a variety of reasons.
The Cubs aren’t great anymore but they play their hearts out every game. It makes you sad when you think about what could have been if they just managed things a little bit better. They might not be World Series contenders right now but they’d be much closer with some of their old core still on the team.
Kris Bryant’s departure is a big part of the fact that they aren’t good. Unfortunately, what’s done is done and he is gone. During his return, however, the Cubs did a fantastic job of honoring him. This man meant everything to them for a long time so it was incredibly fitting.
Before the game, Bryant was shown a video that the Cubs made for him in his return. It showed career highlights which were finished off by the play he made to end the 2016 World Series and end the 108-year curse.
The Chicago Cubs did a great job honoring Kris Bryant on Friday afternoon.
The Cubs did a very good job honoring him and the fans partook in the festivities well. He was a champion, rookie of the year, NL MVP, and multi-time All-Star while wearing a Cubs uniform. Everything he received from them in his return is well deserved.
As you can see, it didn’t end with the video either. When he made his first plate appearance of the afternoon, he received yet another standing ovation. They announced his name coming up to bat with his old walk-up song which was really cool.
Bryant went 0-3 with a walk and a run scored. He has had better days at the plate but his one run scored did help the Giants win 6-1 in a must-win game for them. They are in the middle of a very tough division race right now and need all the wins they can get. As fun as it was for them to see their opponent honor one of their players, it quickly became business after that.
Kris Bryant’s future is very much in doubt. He will certainly be playing Major League Baseball next season and beyond but we don’t know where. He certainly seems like he is out on returning to the Cubs so maybe staying with the Giants is a possibility. It might all depend on what happens with this San Francisco team between now and the end of October. Either way, it was good to see Kris return to Wrigley and be well received. It was sensational for everyone.
