The Chicago Cubs gave up on their season when they traded away Kris Bryant, Javier Baez, and Anthony Rizzo. Most people thought they would at least keep one of the three but they moved them all. The 2016 World Series champions as you know them are now nothing short of memory. They have moved on. However, the players that still remain deserve a lot of credit for the way that they have played in the second half.

On Monday, the Cubs pulled out a 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs scored three runs in the first inning to go up 3-0. They then allowed the Reds to tie it at 3 in the 6th. It would have been really easy to allow the playoff-hopeful Reds to take control but they didn’t. They buckled down and scored one run in the bottom of the 8th inning and it stood as the game-winner.

With the win, the Cubs are now winners of seven in a row which is the best active streak in Major League Baseball. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. They are still 20.0 games back of the division lead and have a -97 run differential so it isn’t like it means anything but they deserve a lot of credit.

The reason they deserve credit is for the way that they have played in recent weeks. As mentioned before, it would have been really easy to allow the Reds to come back and win. It would have been even easier to throw in the towel as players after the trade deadline. It was clear that the team was trying to move on but the guys kept grinding.

The Chicago Cubs have seen many different players contribute to wins lately.

At this point in time, we know of a few players that were given chances this season and have run with them. The Cubs don’t have a lot of depth but they have a few players who can hit the ball out of the park. Every last player on the roster should feel great about this winning stretch.

The Cubs are hoping that some of this energy can carry down to the rest of the season and into the next season. It isn’t a for sure thing but you never know what the Cubs do in free agency either. Some people want David Ross gone as the manager but it seems like he has done a good job in recent weeks. If the starting pitching would have been better, the Cubs would be in the Wild Card mix at a very minimum.
