Chicago Cubs: Ozzie Guillen’s comments on Sammy Sosa are perfect
On Sunday, the Chicago White Sox defeated the Chicago Cubs for the fifth time out of six games. They took the Crosstown Classic in dominating fashion and it was a lot of fun to watch. However, one of the big stories after the game was the way Ozzie Guillen felt about the Sammy Sosa situation.
For those who don’t know, Sammy Sosa has not been welcomed back in any way at Wrigley Field. They won’t put him in the Cubs Hall of Fame either and he clearly deserves to be there. He is one of the greatest and most marketable players that the team has ever had.
When the Cubs were lousy in the late 90s and early 2000s, Sosa was there to take some shine away from that fact. His brilliance, PEDs or not, was what allowed the Cubs to become a lot more popular than the White Sox and turned them into a national brand. You would think they’d be a little bit more grateful.
Ozzie did not hold back his opinion on the topic after the game. He said that the Cubs treat him like he is a convicted felon. It is hard to disagree with that take because they certainly don’t treat him like he is one of their greatest players.
The Chicago Cubs refuse to do the right thing when it comes to Sammy Sosa.
It didn’t sound like Chuck Garfien disagreed either. It is pretty clear that the Cubs don’t like Sammy as a person and they refuse to do the right thing no matter what. All he wants is to be welcomed back and they won’t give it to him. Barry Bonds is involved with the San Francisco Giants. Mark McGwire is involved with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Honestly, the White Sox would pull off a power move if they invited him to their stadium to honor him. He was a part of their team for a while. It was a horrible trade for the White Sox but it has been long enough now where everyone would find it funny. Ozzie Guillen would certainly be in favor of it.
If the Cubs ever did change their minds, the fans would go crazy. That place would sell out and it would be a good way to distract everyone from the way that they handled their next wave of stars. It is fair to wonder if this is just an organizational flaw that hasn’t gone away because people are certainly annoyed with them for what happened this summer as well. Either way, Ozzie Guillen is upset and nobody should disagree with him on this.
