Chicago Bears final roster prediction: Linebackers

Quietly, the linebackers have become another big strength of this team. Obviously Khalil Mack and Roquan Smith are the big names, but Chicago has seen a few other guys step up in the preseason, proving they have more depth than some originally might have thought.

Outside Linebackers: Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn, Trevis Gipson, Jeremiah Attaochu

One name fans have been watching even closer lately is second-year pro Trevis Gipson. Especially against the Titans, Gipson was effective and active. He was consistently near the quarterback on what seemed like every single down. The Bears might be paying Robert Quinn a pretty penny, but if Gipson continues to ascend, he will have to get on the field more often.

Inside Linebackers: Roquan Smith, Danny Trevathan, Alec Ogletree, Christian Jones

Inside linebacker is tough, because the Bears will end up cutting some good players. Alec Ogletree really threw everything off after he signed. Ogletree’s dominance in practice earned him a spot, without a doubt.

Christian Jones should be a lock. He knows the Bears. He’s a former starter from Detroit last year. He belongs.

This means the Bears cut Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Josh Woods and undrafted rookie Caleb Johnson. All three are talented players, and hopefully the Bears can keep one of them on their practice squad.
