Chicago Bears Roster: 10 players to cut after preseason finale
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears roster should not include Duke Shelley or Jon’Vea Johnson
7. CB Duke Shelley
The Bears’ cornerback room is an absolute mess right now. The only sure thing appears to be the fact that Jaylon Johnson is their sure fire starter on the outside. Other than Johnson, no one has a clue what the Bears will end up doing.
The slot cornerback is something that could be coming into shape as Marqui Christian played well against Tennessee in that role and deserves a shot to start. Duke Shelley, meanwhile, has done nothing inspiring this preseason. Shelley was once thought to be the future at nickel, but missed tackles and missed placement has cost Shelley big time this preseason.
With other teams likely to cut more talented players than Shelley, the Bears should move on and find a replacement.
8. WR Jon’Vea Johnson
A little different from Ridley’s situation, Jon’Vea Johnson never had a shot to make this roster in the first place. He has also dropped a couple of balls during preseason play, not helping his cause to be picked up by another team.
Johnson was almost dead last on the Bears’ depth chart, so this cut shouldn’t surprise anybody. Johnson is a no-brainer, here. Hopefully for his sake, he can move on and find a job elsewhere, continuing his football career.
