Chicago Cubs disrespect Sammy Sosa once again
Chicago Cubs fans don’t like to think about any trades made between them and the Chicago White Sox lately. In 2021 they helped them by giving them two stud relievers in Craig Kimbrel and Ryan Tepera but that isn’t even the worst of it. They were absolutely fleeced in the trade that sent Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease to the south side for Jose Quintana. However, long before that came a trade in which the Cubs fleeced the White Sox.
The Cubs acquired Sosa and Ken Patterson in exchange for George Bell. Bell was an okay player for the White Sox in the final two years of his career but Sammy Sosa was a superstar. Unfortunately, his bout with steroids and the steroid era have made him a bit of a villain in the Chicago Cubs organization.
His statistics show that he should be in the Hall of Fame. He hit 609 home runs and 545 of them came with the Cubs. He was an NL MVP and a seven-time all-star. He helped put the Cubs on the map in the late 90s. They became the highest-priced ticket in the league for a while because of him. He also had a hand in saving baseball when he faced Mark McGwire in the single-season home run chase of 1988.
He will never get into the Baseball Hall of Fame due to his reputation for steroids. No player in MLB history benefited from the drug more than Sosa. However, the Cubs just revealed a new team Hall of Fame and left him off. There are 56 inductees that will be getting their own plaque but Sammy Sosa is not one of those players. It is a rotten shame. The team continues to disrespect him and refuse to welcome him back in.
The Chicago Cubs refuse to give Sammy Sosa any sort of respect anymore.
Sammy has stated many times that all he wants is to be welcomed back into the park. He has yet to receive that honor despite being the best player that the team had during a long period of time. You would think that winning the World Series in 2016 would make them be a bit more forgiving. Unfortunately, they aren’t letting go of this weird hatred that they have for him.
At this point, you can’t be too surprised that the Cubs are being petty about it. This is a story that has been told a lot over the years. Even though he was one of their most important figures in that era, they refuse to acknowledge him for his importance to the franchise. You never know if that ever changes but they decided to disrespect him yet again in this announcement.
