Chicago Bears who need to step up vs. Bills: EDGE Charles Snowden

Arguably the biggest win of this year’s undrafted free agent crop was former Virginia pass rusher Charles Snowden, who was projected to go in the middle rounds by some. Snowden joined a crowded outside linebacker group with Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn, Jeremiah Attaouchu, Travis Gipson and James Vaughters.

But, still, Snowden’s energy and athleticism is a huge boost and could end up getting him a roster spot in the end. One of the biggest concerns in this group is the ongoing bumps and bruises that Quinn has endured, and if they can get a young, athletic pass rusher like Snowden on the roster to alleviate some of those worries, the Bears should definitely consider it.

Last week against Miami, Snowden looked the part. He was very quick off the edge and showed excellent hands in working around opposing linemen. Snowden ended his time with two tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and two quarterback hits.

For the record, Snowden led the team in quarterback hits. Nobody else had more than one, although the defensive front was extremely active all day. If Snowden has another positive showing against Buffalo, he’ll give the coaching staff a real tough decision to make going forward. The Bears need guys who get to the quarterback, period, and Snowden has proven to do just that.
