Chicago Bears: 5 players who should be cut In next wave
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears should cut inside linebacker Austin Calitro
A couple of weeks ago, Austin Calitro would have had a slightly better shot at sneaking onto the final roster, albeit a very small chance. But, the signing of veteran Alec Ogletree has since sealed Calitro’s fate.
The Bears are fairly deep at inside linebacker, with starters Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan headlining the group — although many believe Ogletree should have a chance to challenge Trevathan. But, that’s a story for another day.
Behind the starters, the Bears have a savvy veteran in Christian Jones, who is more than a capable starter if one of the top two guys go down. Then, there is Josh Woods and Joel Iyiegbuniwe. These are the two that Ogletree has likely leapfrogged as of late.
Right next to Calitro is undrafted rookie Caleb Johnson out of Houston Baptist University. Both of these guys will likely get cut eventually, but it’s always nice to see what could come of a rookie. Calitro has been around the league for a few years now and has even started a couple of games here and there.
But, the Bears simply have too much talent in front of him with far more experience. He should go on to find another job as a reserve elsewhere, so the Bears should do the right thing and let him go sooner than later.
