Chicago Bears: 5 players who should be cut In next wave
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears should cut safety Jordan Lucas
The Bears are pretty much set at safety with Eddie Jackson, Tashaun Gipson, Deon Bush and DeAndre Houston-Carson. Those four should be locks to make the roster, and carrying a fifth safety doesn’t make much sense.
The only reason the Bears would consider keeping Jordan Lucas around is if he offered them anything at all on special teams, and as we saw last Saturday, he doesn’t. Lucas muffed a punt return and also brought a kickoff deep out of the end zone when he probably should have taken a knee. The fact it was preseason made the kickoff decision more acceptable, but Lucas should not be back there returning anything on special teams.
Lucas had only one special teams return in college and has tallied just one punt return as a pro, for zero yards
Lucas doesn’t offer the Bears a whole lot at this point other than being a former member of the Kansas City Chiefs. That’s about all he has to offer them. There are four safeties better than him on this roster, and quite a few better options in the return game. It’s time to cut ties so the veteran can find a new home.
