Chicago Cubs: Strange timing for the Field of Dreams game

Last Thursday, the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees played one of the greatest regular-season games of all time. It is certainly one of the greatest wins in the White Sox regular-season history. It had a beautiful scene, big-time drama, and an incredible ending which is everything you want in a baseball game. Now, it is going to be the Chicago Cubs playing in that spotlight.

The Cubs are going to play at the Field of Dreams in 2022 against the Cincinnati Reds. It is going to be great seeing these two teams meet on that field. The Reds, of course, are the team that won the World Series over the White Sox in 1919. The White Sox famously lost that World Series on purpose to make money which has a big role in the movie Field of Dreams’ plot.

This is going to be a lot of fun for Chicago Cubs fans but it is certainly strange timing. They just traded away Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javier Baez, Craig Kimbrel, Ryan Tepera, Andrew Chafin, and Joc Pederson as a sign of selling. Now, they are going to try and market their team as one worthy of playing in this game. It just doesn’t seem like the Cubs will be good for this right now.

Cincinnati isn’t a perfect team by any means but they are decent enough to play in this game. The Cubs are currently one of the worst teams in the league and it doesn’t seem like that is going to change any time soon. The Cubs always draw well in terms of attendance but it is weird to think about what kind of game might be played on the Field of Dreams for this event.

With all of their star power gone, the Cubs have really fallen on hard times. They have been losing a lot of games by double digits and can’t buy a win. They are 0-12 in their last 12 games. There is a lot of work to do if they plan on fielding a decent team for this game. As mentioned before, it is strange timing.

The Cubs could look wildly different in 2022 in a good or bad way. Right now, it certainly looks like a bad way but you just never know. Regardless, it is going to be cool seeing these two teams take the national stage but it is going to be hard to live up to the 2021 version of the game.

It is interesting that they went for Cubs vs Reds as opposed to a lot of other possibilities. There is also a little bit of drama going on between the Cubs and Reds so you never know how much that comes into play at some point. The only problem is that most of the players involved in that drama are gone. Even though this timing isn’t great in terms of the Cubs’ roster, it is still going to be so fun to watch.
