Chicago Bears: 5 players whose stock rose after preseason Game 1
By Ryan Heckman
Boy, do we have a lot to talk about for the next week. After the Chicago Bears defeated the Miami Dolphins in their preseason opener, the quarterback conversation — or should we now call it controversy — heated up in a big way.
When rookie Justin Fields walked out to sub in for veteran Andy Dalton, all of Soldier Field erupted in a standing ovation. It was unlike anything we’ve ever seen from Bears fans. But, it was justified. Chicago had been waiting for a moment like this for what seemed like their entire franchise’s history.
Unless you live under a rock, you now know that Fields ended up putting on a show in his first-ever NFL action. Completing 14-of-20 passes, Fields threw for 142 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed four times for 33 yards and an impressive touchdown which saw him shed a Miami defender from his face in the backfield and then boot to the left for the end zone.
Justin Fields and many of his Chicago Bears teammates showed just how great they can be this year.
While it certainly could be all about Fields, the Bears saw some great performances from several other players. We can quickly throw Javon Wims from this impending conversation, in case you didn’t see the game — woof. But, much of this Bears team put on a great show Saturday.
There are some positions the Bears need guys to step up, and they did. There are others whom stood out and looked like a luxury the Bears will have all season long.
The following five players are ones who all deserve praise during the next week. They made it known they are here to make an impact, regardless of position or where they are on the depth chart. The Bears can count on these guys in the coming weeks.
