Chicago Bears vs. Miami Dolphins: 5 Bears need to make an impact
By Ryan Heckman
Lachavious Simmons has a golden opportunity up front with the Chicago Bears offensive line
Who knew that last year’s seventh-round pick Lachavious Simmons would be thrust into the spotlight like this? The Bears are hurting up front more than any team in the NFL right now. They are down a handful of offensive tackles, and don’t even know who will be available to start Week 1.
Once the Bears’ tackles are all finally healthy, Simmons will likely find himself far down the depth chart. So, this is his biggest opportunity yet. He will probably play much of this game and get a chance to prove he belongs in the NFL.
There is really only going to be two ways the preseason ends for Simmons. He either proves he belongs on this roster or the Bears are forced to find help at tackle elsewhere. This is a huge opportunity for him to show the coaching staff that he can be an impactful player for them.
Having played much of the previous few practices with the ones, Simmons has been thrown into the fire. Saturday, that trend continues as he will get in on a lot of the action. The best-case scenario for the Bears is that Simmons plays well, and they realize they have more depth than they originally thought.
