Chicago Bears should offer these trades for Michael Thomas
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears could use a rookie wide receiver and future draft capital in a trade for Michael Thomas
This year, the Bears drafted a shifty, possession wide receiver in Dazz Newsome out of North Carolina. As a fifth-round pick, Newsome presented a whole lot of value as he was graded as a third-round talent by some.
Trading Newsome in a deal for Thomas would mean the Bears get to keep Mooney for the future and Robinson for this season.
Imagining an offense with a healthy Thomas, Robinson and Mooney while Fields is under center? That’s a scary thought, but one that would only happen for a single season of course.
The Bears would have to give up a future first and second rounder in this deal, though, because of Newsome’s lack of establishing himself in the NFL.
The other aspect of any trade for Thomas is the cap issue, which the Bears would have to figure out. Obviously, there’s always a way around the cap. The Kansas City Chiefs have proved that. So, if Thomas is available via trade, then Ryan Pace would have to make a way. How? That’s on him. That’s what he gets paid the big bucks for.
But, imagining a future with Thomas and Fields — two former Buckeyes — could be a beautiful thought.
