The Chicago Bears could deal Allen Robinson in a trade for Michael Thomas

This deal is quite polarizing, because nobody knows what will happen to Allen Robinson next year. There’s no telling where he will go, but the possibility of the Saints re-signing Robinson is always there, depending upon how he clicks with the team.

A player of Thomas’ caliber is also worth a first-round pick, but the fact that the Bears wouldn’t get him for a few weeks into the regular season makes it difficult to offer up that type of price. If the Bears sent Robinson and a second rounder to New Orleans, maybe the Saints would bite.

One other intriguing aspect of any Thomas trade is the fact that the Saints would still be on the hook for a chunk of Thomas’ salary even next year — roughly $22 million, in fact. So, while that definitely begs for a first-round pick in return, Thomas’ injury makes the entire situation extremely murky.

How do you offer up a first-round pick for a guy who is currently recovering from an injury and will miss several weeks? Not to mention, he would need time to integrate himself into the offense and learn the playbook. This is a sticky situation for any team potentially trading for Thomas. But, for the Bears, they would be playing the first few games with Darnell Mooney as their number one receiver. Not to say Mooney couldn’t handle it, but missing that elite presence would be tough.
