Chicago Bulls realistic free agent point guard options: Lonzo Ball
The one guy who has been rumored to the Bulls for over a year now is Lonzo Ball. Chicago could have tried to trade for him in each of the last two seasons, but now they’ll have a chance to simply sign him away from the New Orleans Pelicans.
New Orleans reportedly will not match a significant offer sheet for Ball this offseason, ensuring the Bulls could essentially have him if they want him.
If there was one perfect fit for the Bulls right now, it’s Ball. Chicago has a couple of primary scorers already in LaVine and Vucevic. Where they lack is in the facilitating department, along with a bigger guard who can play excellent defense. That is exactly what Ball brings to the table, in a nutshell.
Last season, Ball posted a line of 14.6 points, 5.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting a career-high 41.4 percent from the field. Ball has improved his shooting significantly, especially from long distance (37.8 percent in 2020-2021).
Seeing Ball come to Chicago and pair up with Patrick Williams would give the Bulls two young, excellent defensive-minded players. This is something they have long needed. Defense has been lacking in Chicago for a few years now, and Ball would be the perfect type of player to fill that void.
