Chicago Bulls realistic free agent point guard options: Derrick Rose

Obviously, one of the most talked about free agents in connection with the Bulls will forever be Derrick Rose, so long as he’s available. Any time Rose has been available via trade or free agency since exiting Chicago, he’s been a topic of conversation. But this time, it’s more realistic than ever before.

Coming off a stellar season in which he was traded to the New York Knicks for a bottle cap and bag of potato chips, Rose could be in line for a starting gig once again. Last year off the bench for New York, he averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 assists and 2.9 rebounds while shooting over 41 percent from three-point range.

Rose looked as explosive as he has since leaving the Bulls and became the spark plug that really propelled the Knicks to a playoff run last season. Now 32 years old, Rose has become one of the best sixth men in the league. However, he may very well have played himself into starter’s money once again in the coming days.

Returning to Chicago would no longer be just a feel-good story for Rose. It would be one that would help the Bulls’ quest to get back to the postseason. He and LaVine would provide an exciting, dynamic back court — and one that would sell tickets too. Look for the rumors to continue flowing until he finally signs a deal when free agency begins.
