Chicago Bulls second round point guard targets: Jason Preston, Ohio

Another point guard who currently looks like he could end up in the back of the first or early second round is Ohio’s Jason Preston, who is a pretty complete player, all things considered. Preston was a 3-year starter at Ohio before deciding to declare for the NBA Draft, and his experience should help him adjust to the pro game well.

Last year in 20 games, Preston posted 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. At 6-foot-4, he is a bigger point guard and that size is evident in his rebounding ability.

Similar to Cooper, Preston is not going to blow you away with his jump shot, although he’s improved from three-point range (39.0 percent in 2020 and 40.7 percent in 2019). Preston is a pass-first point guard, which is something the Bulls desperately need. They are looking for that facilitating type who can get the ball to scorers like Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic.

Preston is an intelligent player who possesses sneaky athleticism as well, and he would be a strong fit with the Bulls. If Chicago saw an opportunity to land him early in the second, should he fall, Preston would be an excellent pick.
