Chicago Blackhawks: 3 draft day trades to consider making
The Chicago Blackhawks might consider moving up in the 2021 NHL Draft.
How often do you see a Chicago team make a trade with a Detroit team in any sport. Well, the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings are no longer in the same division or even the same conference. That means that they should be totally open to making trades with one another if they feel it benefits their franchise. The Red Wings have already been busy so far this offseason so expect them to continue being active.
The Hawks should really consider Kent Johnson of Michigan a must draft. He is a sensational college hockey player that is only going to get better. He will be surrounded by a very good group there with the Wolverines so that will only help more. It is fitting to move up to select him by making a trade with the one NHL team that resides in Michigan.
In this deal, the Blackhawks would be giving up Mike Hardman and Vegas’ second-round pick to move up from 12th to 6th. Don’t forget, it is technically the 11th pick because of Arizona forfeiting their selection. This is a deal that the Red Wings might consider to gain more assets if the Hawks really wanted to move up to select their guy. Even if their guy isn’t Kent Johnson, you never know if there is someone up there that they believe won’t make it to them.
The Hawks need to do something. They refuse to rebuild their roster despite the desperate need for it. If they are going to keep trying to win, they might as well still try and add as much young talent as they can in the meantime. All of these trades would either help them in the meantime and future or just the future without hurting the present. Either way, they could be smart.
