The Chicago Blackhawks have a mid-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. It isn’t the best place to be selecting which shows how bad Stan Bowman has been at his job over the last few years. They weren’t good enough to be in the playoffs and they weren’t bad enough to be a legit lottery team. As a result, they may be looking to make a draft-day trade. These are the three trades that they should consider:

Seth Jones, contrary to what some people say on Twitter, is an elite NHL defenseman. He knows how to play both sides of the puck and can log 30 minutes a game if needed. If he came to the Chicago Blackhawks, there is no question who the new number one would be. He would really help slot everyone else on the roster in perfectly. They would probably like to extend him if they acquired him in a trade but that is a story for a different day.

The Hawks need this to happen really badly. He would help them on their blue line as much as any available defenseman in the entire NHL. If something like this were to be pulled off, people would look at their chances to be a playoff team in 2021-22 a lot differently.

The Chicago Blackhawks would be so smart to add a new number one defenseman.

The 2021 first-round pick would be tough to lose but they aren’t drafting anyone better than Jones at that point. Jesper Boqvist isn’t living up to his draft status and Nikita Zadorov is a mediocre (at best) player who is currently an RFA. This is a trade that the Hawks should absolutely consider if it were on the table. Getting Jones would be awesome for them.
