The Chicago Cubs could trade Kris Bryant to the New York Yankees

The Yankees are currently in fourth place in the AL East, being 8.0 games back of the first place Boston Red Sox. The hilarity of this scenario is the fact that the Cubs are also 8.0 games out of first place in the NL Central. Yet, it’s the Yankees’ inability to accept mediocrity that would propel them to make a move like this.

The Yankees are interested in Texas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo, per the same report that had the Phillies in on Buxton. It’s clear they are targeting outfield help at the deadline. Would they be open to going after Bryant? Maybe New York would also enter the sweepstakes next offseason and look to try and bring Bryant back on a huge extension. If they wanted to go in on Bryant, they could try offering a package like this.

To start with, the Cubs would get New York’s no. 5 overall prospect, right-hander Luis Gil. In 12 games between two clubs in 2021, Gil has a combined ERA of 3.76. In 52.2 innings pitched, Gil has tossed 76 strikeouts to 30 walks.

Now, he has given up eight home runs, which is an average of about one home run allowed for every six innings pitched. Gil’s ETA isn’t until 2022, but that would mean the Cubs could potentially have a nice, young addition to their future rotation.

Along with Gil, the Cubs would get the Yankees’ no. 12 prospect, outfielder Kevin Alcantara and their no. 21 prospect, catcher Antonio Gomez. Both of these guys won’t be due up until probably 2023, but could offer Chicago a pair of young bats in future lineups.
