3 players Chicago Cubs could trade and still remain competitive
The Chicago Cubs should really consider trading Zach Davies before the deadline.
The Chicago Cubs starting rotation has been mostly bad this season. We all know that Kyle Hendricks is a beast. Adbert Alzolay and Zach Davies have had their moments but there have been inconsistencies as well. In the case of Davies, the Cubs might be smart to trade him if anyone offers them something. If they did, the team would not be better or worse because of it.
Davies is 5-6 with an ERA of 4.35. It certainly isn’t good but it isn’t bad either. He was acquired by the Cubs from the San Diego Padres in exchange for Yu Darvish. It was a terrible trade by the Chicago Cubs but they were trying to save money. Now, looking back, this season might be a lot different if they were to have Yu Darvish at the front of their rotation.
There are plenty of contending teams that would love to have Davies as their fifth or sixth starter with the potential to go to the bullpen. His name hasn’t been in the rumors as much as the other Cubs players on expiring deals but they might be able to get something for him. You could see it being a lot like the Joc Pederson trade that went down last week.
We don’t know the exact extent of the Cubs firesale but you can assume that some big moves are coming. If any of these players mentioned above are traded, the Cubs probably won’t feel it as much as their everyday stars saying goodbye.
