8. player. 9. . OF. Chicago Cubs. Ian Happ

Ian Happ has had an interesting career so far during his time with the Chicago Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs have had an interesting time with Ian Happ so far in his career. He had times where he was a really good player for them. So far in 2021, however, things have not been going his way. He went from being someone that might be a good leadoff hitting centerfielder to someone that doesn’t even play every day anymore.

He currently has a 0.1 WAR which tells you how little his impact has been so far this season. He has nine home runs which is a decent number but his .181 batting average is terrible. That stat isn’t as beloved as it once was but for someone like Happ to hit at that clip is not good. If the Cubs sent him away via trade, they would certainly still be as competitive as they were before trading him.

There are guys like Jake Marisnick, Jason Heyward, and Rafael Ortega to play left and centerfield in Happ’s place. In fact, you can argue that the Cubs would become a better team if they traded away Happ while they still can. It would have been even better to trade him after his good 2020 season but that ship has sailed now as they won’t get that good of a return. If they can get something for him, they should do it.
