Chicago Cubs, New York Mets trade no. 2 for Kris Bryant

If that first trade package isn’t enough, you could see a deal along the lines of this one. To start with, the Mets would give up their no. 8 overall prospect in third baseman Mark Vientos. The hope here would be that Vientos is the ultimate successor to Bryant at third, and so far in 2021, he is having himself a solid season.

In 48 games with Binghamton, Vientos is slashing .277/.348/.588 with 14 home runs, 13 doubles and 40 RBI. In the last couple of years, Vientos has also seen some action at first base in order to try and increase his versatility in the field. Vientos has improved at the plate over the past few years, specifically in power hitting. His slugging percentage has gone up tremendously and he’d bring a vital bat to this Cubs lineup.

In addition to Vientos, the Cubs would get a pair of right arms. First, they would acquire the Mets’ no. 13 overall prospect in Robert Dominguez. His ETA isn’t until 2024, so the Cubs would have some time to groom him for the future. Thus far in three appearances in the minor leagues in 2021, Dominguez has pitched only 4.2 innings yet has not given up an earned run. He has four strikeouts to just one walk, and has given up three hits.

Lastly, the Cubs would get Joshua Cornielly, who is the Mets’ no. 18 overall prospect. Cornielly, 20, has not yet been assigned in 2021 and his estimated debut is right around 2023.
