Chicago Bears wideout Anthony Miller must earn the coaches’ trust again

Maybe the most important thing for Miller to prove in camp is that he has the trust of the coaches. It is no secret that Miller has fallen out of the good graces with the offensive coaches.

"“It’s not going to be a need-base, you know—we don’t’ need you” Furrey said “We’ve got guys that are going to be able to produce. You better be a pro, you better be on your details, you better do what we’re asking you to do”"

Those are not encouraging words from your position coach in Mike Furrey regarding Miller’s stance with the team. If you felt that Miller’s draft status would guarantee him a roster spot, that quote tells everyone otherwise. The coaches are confident in the additions that they added to the wide receiver room.

They know that Miller has the talent to be a solid player, but they likely have grown tired of waiting for the potential to manifest. One of three options of Goodwin, Byrd, or Newsome can easily take his spot coming out of training camp. Miller is already coming into camp as a heavy underdog not only to lose his spot on the depth chart but find himself off the team.

However, if Miller can show that he is buying into the offense while making plays in practice/preseason games, and earning the quarterbacks’ trust, he will once again be the Bears’ slot wide receiver to start the season.
