Chicago Cubs Rumors: 3 fire sale trades with Houston Astros
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Cubs could trade Kris Bryant to the Houston Astros
Lastly, the Cubs very well could wave goodbye to former NL MVP Kris Bryant, who is enjoying a nice bounce back year in 2021. For a while now, it seems like the Cubs have been rumored to be in the process of parting ways with Bryant. However, to this point, they have not gotten an offer they liked. If the Astros attempted to snag help at the hot corner by going after Bryant, they’d give up maybe their two most promising prospects at the moment.
The Astros’ no. 1 overall prospect, Forrest Whitley, is in the midst of coming back from Tommy John surgery. Therefore, the next-best guy who could be available is outfielder/shortstop Pedro Leon. The Cubs would be getting a future stud in Leon, who has one heck of an arm on him. He’s still getting used to American baseball, but Leon shows a ton of potential as a guy who can play multiple positions.
Secondly, the Cubs get the awfully-popular Korey Lee, a catcher from the University of California Berkeley. This year, Lee is slashing a combined .319/.387/.524 between playing for both Asheville and Corpus Christi.
Lee is the clear prize here, as he possesses big power and top-level hitting talent. If the Cubs were to land both Lee and Leon in a deal for Bryant, they just might have to pull the trigger.
