Chicago Cubs Rumors: 3 fire sale trades with Houston Astros
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Cubs could trade Anthony Rizzo to the Houston Astros
One player, specifically, would form a huge hole in the Cubs’ dugout if he was traded — first baseman Anthony Rizzo. Not only would there be a hole in the clubhouse, but in fans’ hearts everywhere. Rizzo has become the clear leader of this roster over the years and seeing him in another uniform at this stage? It would be almost unbearable.
But, this is where the Cubs are at. If they can get anything of value for him at the deadline, they could trade Rizzo. Now, the definition of a valuable return might be different in the mind of Chicago’s front office. Rizzo probably won’t fetch much of a return, but a fair deal would look something along these lines.
This season, Rizzo is batting .247 with 10 home runs and 33 RBI. He’s not exactly on pace for the old 100 RBI season many of us were accustomed to seeing out of him, but there is still some value in his ability to play first and battle at the plate. Rizzo is a former Gold Glove winner and can give a team like the Astros some quality at-bats — something their juggernaut offense would appreciate.
In this trade, the Cubs get the Astros’ no. 11 prospect in outfielder Zach Daniels along with their no. 24 overall prospect, catcher/first baseman Nathan Perry. Both of these guys would have a couple of years before they are ready to take on the Majors, but at least the Cubs would get something in return for Rizzo, whom they might lose in free agency after this season, anyways.
