We are now just a couple of weeks away from the Chicago Cubs entering into a potential fire sale.

The North Siders have fallen hard over the past month, and there is no doubt that Jed Hoyer and company are going to be on the phones nonstop — ready to sell.

The inability for the Ricketts to spend money wisely — or spend, at all — is starting to rear its ugly head. Chicago is headed for another rebuild, and some big names could be dealt in the coming days.

Unlike the Cubs, the Houston Astros are not only in position to make a run this year but are also willing to spend money to do so. How much money? If history is any indication, the Astros won’t be afraid to make a move.

The Chicago Cubs could find a trade partner with the Houston Astros before this year’s deadline.

According to general manager James Click, the Astros are willing to do whatever it takes if it means they will make another World Series run. In an interview aired a few days ago on Houston’s Sports Talk Radio, Click made it clear he would spend money if necessary, and even go far over the luxury tax threshold.

If the Astros decided to chat with the Cubs in regards to a trade, there are a few different avenues they could go.

Houston has one of the best offenses in baseball, but from the sounds of it, they wouldn’t shy away from adding another bat to the lineup. By the same token, their starting rotation goes deep when healthy. Houston is a very complete team altogether.

Engaging with Chicago in trade talks could provide a number of end results, but these three trades would certainly mean the Cubs are not only having a fire sale, but the Astros mean business.
