Under-the-radar Chicago Bears in training camp: LB Christian Jones

Back in 2014, the Bears inked Christian Jones after going undrafted out of Florida State. He spent a few seasons with the Bears and worked his way up from the practice squad to end up starting 31 games over his first stint with Chicago.

Over the past three seasons, Jones started for the Detroit Lions where he grew tremendously as a player. Now, he’s back in Chicago on a 1-year deal and as a reserve. But, Jones was always a valuable player for the Bears. Now, he will have a chance to earn the top reserve role to back up Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan.

Obviously, we know the Bears still have Joel Iyiegbuniwe and Josh Woods, but Jones is far more experienced and could end up being the better reserve in the end. Some may have forgotten the Bears brought Jones back, and others may not even realize he was a starter in Detroit for the last three years.

Jones is a solid player. He’s a maximum effort type of guy, who does his best to crowd the football on every play. That’s the kind of player the Bears need in case of an injury to a starter — one who has been there and done it before, and can come in and play well if called upon.
