Chicago Bears: 5 under-the-radar players you should know for training camp

Under-the-radar Chicago Bears in training camp: TE Jake Butt
A couple of years ago, a tight end signing might have made a bigger headline in Chicago. Fortunately for the Bears, they seem to have the tight end position figured out for the foreseeable future. With second-year pro Cole Kmet and veteran Jimmy Graham, Chicago is set with their top two tight ends.

However, behind those two there is going to be competition. The other tight ends coming to training camp include Jesper Horsted, J.P. Holtz, undrafted rookie Scooter Harrington, Tyrone Wheatley Jr. and veteran Jake Butt.
After being drafted in the fifth round back in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, Butt has done little to nothing as a pro. Injuries have plagued him his entire professional career, but he is healthy once again and ready to try and enjoy a career resurgence in Chicago.
Over his four years in the NFL, Butt only has 10 receptions for 90 yards and has yet to score a touchdown. If he can prove to be healthy during training camp, there is no reason why he cannot end up as the team’s third or fourth tight end. Those spots are going to be wide open, as there aren’t many notable names behind Kmet and Graham. Holtz probably has the best chance to win the no. 3 job, in the end.
Butt is still young enough where he can enjoy a lengthy career in the NFL if his injury woes are behind him. He’ll be eager to prove himself in training camp, without a doubt. With a chip on his shoulder and a second chance, Butt will be one to watch.
