The Chicago Blackhawks could really use some help on the blue line going forward.

The Chicago Blackhawks clearly have a depth problem in the forward group. That combined with their weak defense has forced them to become one of the worst defensive teams in the entire National Hockey League. They need help on the blue line badly because it doesn’t look like they are fixing that problem anytime soon. David Savard might be someone who can help them with that problem if the Hawks went that route.

David Savard had a very interesting season. He entered his 10th NHL season playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He had been a part of that team for each and every year of his NHL career up to that point. After 40 games this year, the Blue Jackets knew they were toast. They started selling off pieces and Savard was one of them. He was lucky enough to be sent to the team that would eventually hoist the Stanley Cup and he was a very big part of it.

Savard isn’t a superstar but he would jump right into the Hawks’ top-six. You can even make a case for him to have a significant role. He had a much lesser role on the Tampa Bay Lightning but that will happen when you have the players that they do. This would be a great signing for a team trying to add some structure. The Tampa Bay Lightning are not a bad team to look to in this situation at all.
