The Chicago Blackhawks might have to lose a first-round pick in a deal like this.

The Chicago Blackhawks are so set on winning right now even though it is the wrong thing to do. They are the worst team in the Central Division and it isn’t close. However, you can fully expect them to make moves like this to try and be competitive in 2021-22. Starting with a first-round pick might not be that bad because if they kept the pick, they would probably mess it up. Lately, even when they have hit on first-round picks, they trade them away for less anyway.

The organization really likes Ian Mitchell as they should. He is a great young defenseman who brings more to the table than just ice hockey skills. He is a tremendous leader and has been a captain everywhere he went. If he sticks around and develops into a good player, don’t be surprised if he is an NHL captain one day.

Pius Suter had a really nice rookie season. However, when Tarasenko is healthy he is head and shoulders better than Suter is. If he were required in a trade of this magnitude, the Hawks would be incompetent to not consider it. Suter is a nice player but he has a ceiling to his offensive game. If he went to a team like the Blues, he would fit right into their bottom-six perfectly.
