Chicago Bears: 5 players to potentially replace Eddie Goldman
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears could replace Eddie Goldman with Kawann Short
Maybe one of the cheapest options still available in free agency is former Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kawann Short. His tenure in Carolina ended this year after spending his entire 8-year career with the Panthers.
His last two seasons, Short has played in only five games due to injury. That’s the biggest concern with him. Is he healthy?
If he can prove he is indeed healthy, Short could come in and help at either nose tackle or defensive tackle. Over anything else, he’s an experienced and underrated defensive tackle who has only made two Pro Bowls.
Short is solid against the run, but he provides a huge lift in the pass rush. He is another one of those guys like Casey who is a different breed than Goldman. I believe the number one thing the Bears have to do better in 2021, as a defense, is to rush the passer. So, getting a guy like Short to come in and help in that area would allow for more takeaways by the secondary.
If the Bears were to sign Short, they could absolutely get him on a cheap deal. Again, having played in just five games over the last two seasons makes him an affordable player. He is a low-risk addition at this point, and one the Bears should still consider signing.
