The Chicago Bears could replace Eddie Goldman with Bilal Nichols

Like the Bears did last year for a lot of the season, they could opt to replace Goldman from within. Bilal Nichols would be the most logical candidate to take over for Goldman just as he did in 2020.

Nichols held his own, for the most part, while at nose tackle. The biggest issue was seeing him pushed back off the line in the run game more often than not. On passing downs, Nichols was fairly effective. However, he wasn’t as big or strong like Goldman and had a hard time stuffing the run.

If Nichols stepped in and played nose, the Bears would then start either Mario Edwards or newly-signed Angelo Blackson in his place. The outside linemen positions would be manned by those two, along with Akiem Hicks, in a nice rotation.

Still, the Bears would likely want to sign one more veteran lineman for depth purposes. Nichols isn’t the most ideal replacement option solely based on how he looked out of position at times last year, but he would not be the worst option either.
