Chicago Bears: 5 players to potentially replace Eddie Goldman
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears could replace Eddie Goldman with Jurrell Casey
One free agent still available is long-time Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey. Last year, Casey signed with the Denver Broncos but missed most of the season due to a biceps injury. However, before he signed in Denver, Casey was a Pro Bowl defensive tackle. In fact, he was coming off of five straight Pro Bowl appearances with Tennessee.
Casey is 31 years old and is likely still unsigned because of the fact he was coming off a season-ending injury in Denver last year. Teams with immediate needs could end up signing a guy like Casey either right before camp or even during camp.
For most of his career, Casey was either a defensive end or a prototypical tackle. He’s a little smaller than Goldman (6-foot-1, 305 pounds) but would be a solid candidate to fill in there. The thing Casey has always brought to the table is rushing the passer.
As an interior lineman, Casey would give the Bears that type of player who threatens to sack the quarterback — something Goldman doesn’t necessarily do a whole lot of. Goldman is more the run-stuffing type, whereas Casey could help in the pass rush in a big way.
