Chicago White Sox: Billy Hamilton is the ultimate super-weapon

It is always fun when a player plays for both Chicago baseball teams. Billy Hamilton has spent back-to-back seasons in the Windy City as he spent the short 2020 season with the Chicago Cubs. He didn’t appear in many games with them but he was there nonetheless. They probably wish they used him more on the North Side after seeing what he is capable of on the South Side. He has been a huge superweapon with the Chicago White Sox so far this year.

Billy Hamilton has been an impressive story for the Chicago White Sox this year.

The White Sox know that he isn’t the most impressive hitter on the roster but they have used him in a way that makes him successful. For one, Tim Anderson has been there for Billy as he told him that he doesn’t have to be known as “Billy the runner” and that he can be known as “Billy the hitter” if he wants to. So far, he has shown Tim Anderson’s confidence to be right.

They love when he reaches base because he becomes an immediate threat to steal multiple bags and eventually score. It happens all of the time. They also love to use him as a defensive replacement because he plays some really good centerfield. On Tuesday night, he made one of the greatest catches you will ever see.

As you can see, in the pouring rain, Hamilton made the elite catch that will be on highlight reels across the country for days. With rain falling hard from the sky, he leaped, made the catch, and came down sliding in the mud pile. When he was laying on the ground covered in that soggy mud, it was great to see him smiling having a good time.

You can see that Liam Hendriks was genuinely shocked that he made that catch in the conditions that he did. When you think deeply about it, you shouldn’t be too surprised at all. White Sox fans are used to seeing these things from Billy this season. Everyone, including Billy, knows that he gives his full effort all of the time.

We don’t know how this season is going to go for the White Sox because of all the injuries they have. They are already at 50 wins so you can clearly see that they have still been one of the best in the league but you have to wonder how far they can take it. Having someone like Billy Hamilton come in and make big plays like this on a regular basis makes it easier. If they do go on to make a deep postseason run, it feels right to have someone like this on the roster for a lot of reasons.
