Chicago Cubs Rumors: 5 trades for selling 2021 All Stars
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Cubs could trade Craig Kimbrel to the Houston Astros
While the Houston Astros may never escape the scandal that ensued a few years ago, they will nevertheless try to move forward and win another World Series. This year, they’re in a tight race with the Oakland Athletics. Currently, Houston is 3.5 games up on Oakland in the AL West.
One area the Astros would benefit from is adding a sure fire arm to their bullpen. Houston may actually add a couple of pieces before the deadline, but a reliever is certainly on the table. There are few better candidates to add than the Cubs’ Kimbrel.
Similar to the deal before, the Cubs don’t necessarily get a top-50 MLB prospect. However, they do get a pair of players from the Astros in return for Kimbrel.
To start with, the Cubs land the Astros’ no. 8 overall prospect Tyler Ivey. Currently, Ivey is unlikely to pitch again this season due to an elbow injury. The Cubs would have to wait a while longer to see exactly what they have in him.
Second, the Cubs would get the Astros’ no. 10 prospect Shawn Dubin, also a righty. Dubin strikes out a lot of batters (24 in 20 innings this year) but also gives up more hits than you’d like to see right now. However, the potential is there.
