Chicago Cubs Rumors: 5 trades for selling 2021 All Stars
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Cubs could trade Kris Bryant to the New York Mets
One of the first teams the Cubs could look to engage in trade talks with is the New York Mets. Currently, the Mets lead the NL East by just a few games over the Washington Nationals. Right now, that division is up for grabs, outside of probably the Miami Marlins who sit at the bottom.
But, between the Mets, Nationals, Braves and Phillies, each team is separated by a maximum of 4.5 games. For the Mets, adding a player at the hot corner could be just the move they need to pull away in the division. Kris Bryant is the perfect player to round out that roster.
If the Cubs dealt Bryant to the Mets, they would be asking for a huge return. Assuming the Mets felt confident in being able to extend Bryant on a long-term contract, a huge return would be doable.
The return begins with the Mets’ no. 4 overall prospect, third baseman Brett Baty. Dealing a third baseman and returning a third baseman who is one of the Mets’ top prospects only seems right.
Beyond Baty, the Cubs also get New York’s no. 7 overall prospect, outfielder Khalil Lee, who has had a tough season in 2021 thus far (just one hit on 18 at-bats).
The Cubs’ return would be rounded out with a couple of pitchers coming by way of New York as well, with their no. 13 prospect Robert Dominguez and no. 23 prospect Oscar De La Cruz — both right-handers.
