Chicago Cubs: 3 players snubbed from the MLB All-Star Game
The Chicago Cubs should be seeing Willson Contreras at the All-Star Game.
Willson Contreras is probably the biggest snub on the entire Chicago Cubs roster. He was a final vote candidate for the starting catcher position but was beat out. He was then left off the reserves list but that feels like a mistake. He should be there as one of the catchers on the National League All-Star team. It is unfortunate but it is what it is at this point.
Contreras is one of the Cubs’ “big four” but he is the only one of the four that is under contract for 2022. He will then be a free agent after that season. The Cubs could still trade him knowing they would get more as he has that extra year of control. He probably has the highest trade value of anyone on the team right now.
The Cubs, in all likelihood, aren’t going to be anywhere near the playoffs this year. That might cause them to consider trading everyone mentioned here, including the players that actually made the All-Star roster. Of course, you can expect this snub to motivate someone like Willson Contreras as he wants to have a strong finish to the season.
If the Cubs were in first-place and dominating everyone, they might have more of these guys in the All-Star Game but that just isn’t the reality this year. Hopefully, they are able to sell most of these guys off and get what they deserve for them.
