Chicago Cubs Rumors: 3 splash trades to make with New York Yankees
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Cubs could trade Kris Bryant to the New York Yankees
Another sad reality for the Cubs would be to look at dealing Kris Bryant, who has enjoyed a huge resurgence in 2021 thus far. He’s playing like an MVP candidate yet again and, if ever there was a time for the Cubs to trade him, now would be that time.
As tough as it would be to see Bryant go, the Cubs’ current odds at making any postseason run in the near future aren’t very good. Therefore, selling high on a player like Bryant, who has been a previous MVP and has a World Series ring with plenty of years left in him, would be a necessary choice considering the team’s future. Regardless of whether or not they end up trading Bryant, he’s certainly making it a difficult decision this season.
In this deal, the Cubs would get Dominguez yet again, making it a polarizing trade from the start. However, the Cubs would also net the Yankees’ number two overall prospect in right-hander Clarke Schmidt. The Yankees haven’t seen Schmidt throw minor league pitches just yet this year due to an injury he suffered in spring training, but the righty should be back soon.
In addition to Dominguez and Schmidt, the Cubs would get New York’s number four overall prospect Oswald Peraza, a shortstop. They would also net catcher Josh Breaux, who is lower down on the Yankees’ prospect list at number 19 overall.
Losing Bryant would be extremely difficult, especially for fans who fell in love with him from Day 1 and have supported him through his tough stretches. Seeing him succeed now only to send him to play in the pinstripes would be a tough pill to swallow, but it could be a necessary one.
